Raise your hand

“I know this one.”

“I want to try.”

“Pick me.”

How long has it been since you’ve seen a first-grade student who wants to answer a question?

The straight arm shoots into the air.

The butt leaves the seat an inch or two.

Eye-contact is made with the teacher.

And, sometimes, you’ll hear an audible, “Ooo. Ooo.”

When it comes to your career, how long has it been since you’ve raised your hand?

Gone after a new opportunity?

Clearly expressed to your employer:

“I know this one.”

“I want to try.”

“Pick me.”

The passiveness of ‘career development’ in today’s world has me stumped, and, frankly, a little annoyed.

If you want the next opportunity, learn a new skill. Volunteer for new challenges (without expectation of anything except learning). Create something your workplace needs.

Raise. Your. Hand.
